Description

The Mountaintop takes place on the evening of April 3, 1968 in a motel room in Memphis, Tennessee. The story centers on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., prominent leader of the American civil rights movement and a proponent of non-violent civil disobedience. Opponents consider him is a dangerous threat to the status quo.

In The Mountaintop, an exhausted King returns from a prophetic speech during the sanitation workers’ strike and is visited by a mysterious hotel maid, Camae, with a much greater mission than delivering his coffee.  With vivid theatrical imagination and powerful emotion, playwright Katori Hall beautifully fictionalizes the final hours of King’s life. This Olivier Award-winning drama is about leadership, legacy and mortality.
