Description

Loving Shakespeare as a Performer
Thursday, April 28, 8:15 pm
  Reading Room, Wyndham Robertson Library

What draws an actor to roles that have been performed countless times over the past 400 years? What more is there to discover about Hamlet, Othello, or Falstaff? Join us for an evening of love, honor, jealousy, and magic as we explore the staging and text that make Shakespeare as exciting as ever. American Shakespeare Center actor Rick Blunt will take us on a tour of some of the greatest hits and lesser-known masterpieces that celebrate the Bard of Avon. Whatever your level of experience, Blunt is sure to engage you on a journey from the classroom to the stage, around the world and back.

Blunt has been a leading player with the American Shakespeare Center for 10 years and has appeared as 60 different characters in over 30 productions. He holds an M.F.A. in Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature in performance (acting emphasis) from Mary Baldwin College. A former collegiate athlete, he discovered his passion for Shakespeare while climbing telephone poles for AT&T. He is currently the guest artist in residence at Hollins, where he is teaching Madness in Shakespeare with Professor Marilyn Moriarty, Classical Scene Study, and Acting Dynamics.

Funding provided by the Beanstalk Fund. The Beanstalk series brings readers and writers together by supporting lively and entertaining literary events at the Wyndham Robertson Library and Hollins University.
