SUMMARY:Hike for Hospice
DESCRIPTION:Good Samaritan Hospice's second annual Roanoke Hike for Hospice is scheduled for Sunday\, September 11th\, from 12:30pm   3:30pm at Explore Park\, located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. \n\n\n\nThe day begins with participants choosing from two different routes along the Salem Turnpike trail\, a 0.3 mile walk or a 1 mile hike\, and then setting off on their own personal trek to the main event area. \n\n\n\nOnce at the main event area participants will enjoy a catered lunch of hotdogs and hamburgers\, live bluegrass music\, exhibitors and games will be available as hikers arrive throughout the day. \n\n\n\nGroup hikes\, guided by Walkabout Outfitters experienced trail guides as well as Roanoke County Park interpreters and Society of American Foresters guides\, will be available from the main event site and will depart every 30-45 minutes. \n\n\n\nThe day will conclude with a dove-release facilitated by Good Samaritan Hospice's chaplain and flag ceremony lead by local marines\, honoring loved ones.\n\n\n\nFunds raised from the second annual Roanoke Hike for Hospice will support and enhance Good Sam's bereavement program\, serving Roanoke Valley residents who are coping with loss and grief. \n\n\n\nParticipants can register online by visiting Good Samaritan Hospice's website\, www.goodsamhospice.org\, and clicking the "Hike for Hospice" tab. \n\n\n\nOnline registration will be open until Wednesday\, September 7th.
